๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ท Boricuas on the Road

Los Boris on the Road

A Puerto Rican couple, a self-built van, and one very opinionated parrot โ€” chasing all 50 states one tank of gas at a time.

๐Ÿ“ On the road right now ยท Next big goal: Alaska 2027

How It Started

We Sold It All and Built a Home on Wheels

We're Shey & Luis โ€” two Boricuas who traded a fixed address for the open road. We didn't know how to build a table, let alone a van, so we graduated from the University of YouTube, tools in hand, and turned a bare cargo van into a home.

Now we're working our way through all 50 states, carrying a little bit of the island with us wherever we park โ€” the music, the food, the familia energy, and a healthy dose of "se hace lo que se pueda."

  • Self-built van, learned entirely on the fly
  • Chasing all 50 states, one stop at a time
  • Sharing the real ups and downs, not just the highlight reel

The Third Wheel

Meet Lucas, Our African Grey Co-Pilot

Lucas doesn't have a driver's license, but he definitely has opinions about the route. Our African grey parrot has logged more miles than most people's road trips โ€” riding shotgun, narrating rest stops, and keeping us laughing (and occasionally very confused about what noise we just heard).

  • Full-time flock of one, permanent travel buddy
  • Self-appointed alarm clock and doorbell
  • Has opinions on every gas station we choose

What Fills Our Days

Life on the Road

Fishing lines, full plates, honest days, and a whole country left to see.

Fishing Whenever We Can

Luis will find water in any state โ€” lake, river, or coastline. If there's a rod in the van (there's always a rod in the van), there's a good chance we're parked near water.

Food Is Non-Negotiable

From tiny-kitchen arroz con gandules to the best hole-in-the-wall diner in whatever town we land in, good food is how we get to know a place โ€” and each other.

Staying Positive, Mile After Mile

Shey manages real health challenges on the road, and chooses to be the bright spot anyway. If you're looking for a reminder that you can keep moving forward, this is it.

Chasing All 50 States

State by state, we're building a map full of stories โ€” the goal is to touch all 50, with Alaska on the horizon for 2027.

"We didn't know how to build a van. We just knew we wanted a different kind of life โ€” so we started, and figured out the rest on the road."

Tried & Tested

Gear We Actually Use

The stuff that earns its spot in a small van has to work hard. These are a few of our go-to picks.

Compost Toilet

No black tank, no drama โ€” our compost toilet is one of the best upgrades we made to the build.

Water Filtration

Clean drinking water from any hookup, anywhere we park. Non-negotiable for full-time van life.

Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Fishing, hiking, hanging out at the coast โ€” we're outside constantly, so reef-safe SPF is an everyday essential.
